Environmental economics and transport

The lecture distinguishes local (air pollution, noise) and global environmental issues (climate) that require different governance and policy instruments. We cover static vs dynamic costs and the effect of different policy instruments (taxes, permits, standards including land use regulation). For climate we cover in addition, the role of participation in international treaties and energy market interactions. Local issues are illustrated for cars and trucks. Climate policy issues are illustrated for cars, trucks and aviation.

Stef Proost is emeritus professor of transport, environment and energy economics at KULeuven (B). His recent research focuses on decarbonization of the transport sector (cars, trucks, aviation, maritime) and the political economy of transport policies. He has been advising international and national governments on transport, environment and energy policies.
