The 2nd UK Microfluidics Conference was held on Wednesday 18th June 2025 in Leeds.
The conference hosted over 100 delegates from 31 institutes, with 15 talks (including 4 keynotes), 39 poster presentations, and 7 exhibitors, with representatives from a further 5 UK companies. Key topics included the use of microfluidics for analytical chemistry, environmental monitoring, crystallisation, particle synthesis, cell analysis, protein analysis, medical diagnostics, and organ-on-chip.
Three poster awards were presented courtesy of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) journals Lab on a Chip, Analyst, and Analytical Methods, with a further student poster award courtesy of the RSC Microanalytical Group. The poster award winners were:
-
- Lab on a Chip poster award winner – Georgina Lee (University of Leeds)
- Analyst poster award winner – Jessie Howell (University of Strathclyde)
- Analytical Methods poster award winner – Molly Doyle (Manchester Metropolitan University)
- RSC Microanalytical Group student poster award winner – Polly Foster (University of Leeds)
We thank our presenters, exhibitors and attendees for helping to make the day a great success, for demonstrating the groundbreaking research taking place in the UK, and for helping to build a UK community!

The 2nd UK Microfluidics Conference – One-day meeting on Wednesday 18th June 2025, Leeds
After several years, the 2nd UK Microfluidics Conference will bring together researchers from across the UK and Europe for a one-day forum dedicated to the latest advancements and real-world applications of microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip technology. This event will provide an ideal setting to explore recent progress in the field, covering diverse areas from microfabrication and fundamentals to bioanalytical chemistry, clinical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, materials science, cell and tissue analysis, genetic analysis, organ-on-a-chip, paper microfluidics and more.
The 2025 conference is an important step in developing a UK network of microfluidics researchers, opening up new avenues for collaboration, research initiatives, and a shared understanding of the field’s scope across the UK. To foster community building, registration fees will be set at a level that encourages PhD students and early-career researchers (ECRs) to attend, offering opportunities to connect and exchange insights with fellow researchers.
Thematic sessions will feature keynote talks from leaders in microfluidics research, while poster presentations and exhibition spaces will promote discussion and engagement. A wine reception at the end of the day will allow for further discussions amongst delegates. For those arriving in Leeds the evening before the conference, we will hold a small informal gathering to allow delegates to meet.
Building on the success of the 1st UK Microfluidics for Analytical Chemistry Conference, held at the National Oceanography Centre in 2018, this year’s event marks the beginning of a regular series designed to strengthen connections across the UK microfluidics community.
We welcome you to join us in this collaborative endeavour, as we establish a network dedicated to advancing research and fostering partnerships in this rapidly evolving field.
